TBALL and a Hat

Published Categorized as Memory

UCB and UCLA played on the same team between 2003-2009—perhaps a first!

Of course this was the TBALL team (Technology Based Assessment of Language and Literacy).

With many flights up and down the coast of California (and one nixed suggestion of meeting half way at The Cattleman’s Ranch in King City)—we got to know David and Mia – Abeer (Alwan), Elaine (Anderson), Patti (Price), Shri (Narayanan), Margaret (Heritage) and I.

From those days I learnt 2 key things from David that I remember clearly:

  1. Just because something predicts early literacy outcomes doesn’t mean we should teach it to children: case in point—the RAN assessment.
  2. Every project deserves a fun title and ours had a hat to go with it! (My dad still wears mine to this very day!)

My only regret—we didn’t get David in a photo with his TBALL hat on!

All the very best for what lies ahead David—just be sure you get a hat to remember it all by!
